Electrocoin calls for technical standards review to unshackle industry innovators

Buoyed by a strong year of product development and performance, Electrocoin’s John A Stergides is calling for a technical standards review to support innovation and sustainable growth – a message he’ll champion at this year’s ACOS.

Electrocoin has called for a technical standards review ahead of ACOS, with the company’s John A Stergides suggesting a new category of machine could unlock innovation for the sector. Stergides also stressed that a review of stakes and prizes was overdue, with the majority of values remaining unchanged for more than a decade and lagging far behind inflation.

“For our industry, new stakes and prizes and even a new category to encourage innovation and development is needed,” Stergides remarked. “But certainly not any increase in any tax rates.”

With political and economic uncertainty still shaping the business landscape, ACOS provides manufacturers, operators and suppliers with an occasion to share such ideas and compare notes on the 2025 season.

“It’s the last major UK coin-op show until 2026, so it’s an opportunity to hear industry opinions and insights,” he explained. “ACOS is also a time to speak with operators and see which trends have worked in the summer and also what they think will be the case in 2026. We also use it as a time to showcase and preview some of our products that will be key for next year.”

Among those products is Big Wheel, a skill with prize game that has gained significant traction this year. “We will be showing the successful Big Wheel which has been throwing in success this year and is now in full production,” Stergides confirmed.

“We managed to have a number of units out on location and believe it will be one of the stronger products for 2026.” Also on the stand will be Mr Do’s Football Frenzy, a fast-paced, family-focused redemption title, alongside the debut of Golden X Prize and Colorama Plus.

The ever-popular Spinning Cyclone will also feature prominently, continuing to prove its appeal as a simple, reliable and rewarding ticket redemption game that engages players of all ages.

Looking back on the past year, Stergides said refinement and consistency had been the company’s priorities. “2025 has been an opportune time to refine a lot of our popular products so we have had a positive reaction to our refined products,” he detailed.

“Spinning Cyclone continues to go from strength to strength as operators seek an exciting ticket redemption game that is simple to play and can reward players accordingly.”

However, despite the strong product base, Stergides’ message ahead of ACOS is clear: without regulatory reform, the government risks stifling one of Britain’s most creative – and fiscally consistent – sectors. If the Chancellor wants to increase her coffers, she needs to modernise the industry and unshackle its innovators -not tax it into the ground.
